The Route of Emotions is one of the most fascinating tourist circuits in Brazil, connecting three states in the Northeast: Ceará, Piauí, and Maranhão. Along the Ceará stretch, the journey goes through scenarios that look like a painting: giant dunes, freshwater lagoons, charming villages, and constant wind beaches that attract tourists from all over the world. The full route can be traveled in about 15 days, but those who focus only on the Ceará stretch can explore the main attractions in less time. On this page, you can see what cannot be missed in the route. Each city offers experiences that match different travel profiles: whether traveling with family, as a couple, or with friends, there is always something special to experience—from quiet lagoons to trails, kitesurf, and luais by the sea.
Jijoca de Jericoacoara (the main and inductor destination on the route), Cruz, Camocim, Barroquinha, and Chaval, as well as Preá. Each spot has unique characteristics, from the hype and rustic charm of Jeri to the almost untouched tranquility of beaches such as Bitupitá and Curimãs.
Ceará is mainly accessed by two airports - Fortaleza International Airport (FOR) and the Jericoacoara Regional Airport (JJD), located in Cruz. It is possible to arrive and circulate through the route using private 4x4 transfers, shared transportation, regular buses, or even private vehicles (keep in mind that ordinary cars do not reach the village of Jeri, and it is necessary to make the last stretch in jardineiras or adapted vehicles). The CE-085, BR-222, and BR-402 highways connect the main cities.
In addition to the Jericoacoara National Park, which covers parts of Camocim and Cruz, the route offers experiences ranging from Kitesurf in Preá and in Tatajuba to cultural tourism in villages such as Maceió and Chaval. There are natural attractions such as Stone Pierced, Sloth Tree, Blue Hole, Bar of Medicines, and crystal clear ponds such as Blue Lagoon and Paradise Lagoon. In the evening, the village of Jeri becomes a vibrant pole, with bars, live music, parties like Café Jeri, and luais on the beach.
Immerse yourself in culture, understand nature, and prepare to live the best of the Route of Emotions.
The identity of the region is formed by the mixture between coastal, backcountry and indigenous roots, marked by artisanal fishing, popular religiosity, straw and crochet crafts, and Festas Juninas (June Festivals) that turn June and July into a large open camp. It is common to find capoeira wheels in Jeri, presentations of folk groups and gastronomic events celebrating fishing and local cuisine.
The history of the Ceará region of the Route of Emotions is deeply linked to the strength of its people, who learned to live between the sertão and the sea.
Originally inhabited by indigenous peoples such as the Tapuias, Tremembes, and Potiguaras, the region underwent Portuguese colonization and religious missions that formed the first Christian villages. Camocim prospered with the salt cycle and river trade, while Jeri remained isolated until the 1980s, when it began to be discovered by backpackers. Chaval stands out for its monoliths with rock inscriptions, and Barroquinha preserves traditions linked to the sea and extractivism.
On the other hand, cities such as Camocim have older origins, linked to the salt cycle, river navigation, and regional trade, carrying inheritances from the colonial period and the struggle for environmental and cultural preservation. The history of the region pulsates in each village, in each dune, and in each armed network under the sun.
The route crosses biomes such as caatinga, mangroves, restingas, and dune fields. Among the species found are seahorses, turtles, migratory birds such as the scarlet ibis and sandpipers, and mammals such as anteaters and dolphins in preserved areas. The flora ranges from bromeliads and cacti in the dunes to red and white mangroves.
The only fee is for sustainable tourism in Jeri, in the value of R$ 41.50 for 10 days (with an additional R$ 4.15 charge per surplus day). Exemptions: The elderly, children up to 12 years old, and people with disabilities.

The best time is from June to February, during the dry season, when winds are perfect for kitesurfing and the lagoons are full.
Light clothes, plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. At night, a light cardigan can be useful because of the wind.
Drink lots of water, respect nature, and avoid traveling with vehicles in the areas of turtle spawning.
Take cash: Some villages have little to no phone signal and limited ATMs. Taxis do not accept cards in certain areas
The voltage is 220V. For foreigners, we recommend bringing universal adapters, as not all plugs are compatible.
